This is the web site for 1st Saturday Contras - an American “Zesty” Contradance series in the UK run by Michael Barraclough & Rhonda Hotop with resident band Stick Shift.

Contradance is a type of folk dance for all ages and a social dance in the most literal sense. It is a great way to meet lots of new people and potentially, many new friends. You do not need to bring a partner. All the dances are explained and we dance to top quality live music. People usually dress casually (and in layers so that clothes can be removed as the evening hots up!). Soft soles, low-heeled shoes are recommended and you may find a bottle of water is a good idea - dancing is thirsty play.
